 It all began in the summer break. I spent a lot of time at the beach, watching the waves, walking along the shore, finding shells, immersing in the endless blue surrounding me, relaxing, breathing….
I felt it was time to freshen up my repertoire of teaching pieces and was searching for a composer that would be musically expressive while reinforcing some of the basic technique foundations. It was also important for me to find a composer I could connect to. And then I realized who that composer was :) The students in my piano studio were very much part of the process. While teaching the pieces I noted what works well and what doesn’t and could adjust and tweak the pieces until they felt right. The students were eager to try out the new pieces and to my relief, where OK with the occasional changes I made, although it meant they had to relearn the piece in its new version.
